“Tech Tomorrow: A Detroit Vision” is a new report from Detroit Future City’s Center for Equity, Engagement and Research, made possible through support from the Song Foundation and Kapor Foundation. Drawing on labor market and capital data, ecosystem analysis, and stakeholder insights, the report examines the current state of Detroit’s tech economy. The report finds that Detroit has strong momentum—and a defining opportunity.
With coordinated action, the region could add approximately 20,300 tech jobs held by Detroiters and generate up to $6.8 billion in new wages over the next five years. It also highlights the structural gaps that must be addressed, including uneven access to capital and ongoing workforce and ecosystem challenges, to ensure not just Detroit’s tech growth but that Black and Hispanic/Latino Detroiters can fully participate in—and benefit from—the city’s next wave of technology growth.
