Detroit Future City developed “Keeping Your Family Home” to gain an understanding of the scale of heirs’ properties in Detroit and provide the critical data for stakeholders to develop solutions that can help Detroiters attain legal ownership of their inherited homes. Heirs’ properties are family-owned properties inherited through generations without formal legal proof of ownership. Lack of legal ownership threatens homeownership, generational wealth, and neighborhood and household stability.
Accompanying the report is a brief primer on heirs’ properties and additional information on resources.
