Jointly authored by Detroit Future City and United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Centering Community Voice: A Blueprint for Incorporating Lived Experience into the Grantmaking Process provides readers with a basic framework and toolkit to guide organizations at all levels on ways to integrate lived experience into every level of decision making.
This in-depth report was updated in the fall of 2021 to include tools to help organizations identify root causes and inequities. The blueprint is intended for philanthropic organizations but includes guiding principles and exercises that may be useful for community-based organizations. Developing this report involved a national study of literature and toolkits centered on equity, justice, and inclusion, along with conversations among practitioners and southeastern Michigan residents with lived experience.
