Detroit is at a pivotal moment: as the future of work evolves, we must do more and better to support and prepare our young talent. Our youth have the talent to drive Detroit’s future, now we must invest in the systems to support their futures.
“Career-Connected Learning: Investing in Detroit’s Future Talent” examines how Detroit’s education, youth development, and workforce systems are aligned to help young people reach their dreams, achieve upward mobility in a changing economy — and where improvements must be made.
Grounded in the perspectives of almost 200 Detroit youth, along with input from parents, practitioners, employers, and policy makers, the report shows that while progress is underway, we have work to do to provide young people with early career exposure, clear pathways into a wide range of industries, and consistent support to help them navigate their academic and early career journeys.
Read the report to explore the bright spots, barriers, and opportunities across three core components of career-connected learning: career awareness and exploration, career guidance, and work-based learning.
This report was funded by The Skillman Foundation, a Detroit-based philanthropy focused on transforming education systems and expanding opportunities for Detroit youth.
