Opinion: Detroiters weigh in on mayoral election

As Detroit’s August 5 primary nears, leading mayoral candidates face controversy: Mary Sheffield is under fire for using public funds and a UAW logo, while Jonathan Barlow faces backlash over viral videos. Endorsements are split between Sheffield and Saunteel Jenkins. Though Detroit has seen growth under Mayor Duggan, many longtime residents feel left out and are calling for leadership that invests in neglected neighborhoods and promotes real equity.
