In honor of National Homeownership Month, Detroit Future City hosted a DFC Equity Innovation Series event with a keynote address from Majora Carter, and a dynamic panel discussion!
The virtual event introduced data from Detroit Future City to provide a better understanding of where there is market activity and where there is not, along with data that highlights challenges and opportunities for Detroit neighborhoods. Through dialogue with national and local strategists this webinar uplifted the important role homeownership plays in building resilient communities, highlighted opportunities to strengthen Detroit homeownership demand, and inspired action to grow homeownership in Detroit neighborhoods.

Jerrell Harris, Deputy Director, City of Detroit’s General Services Department
Jerrell is a trained urban planner that believes that the built environment has great impacts on our quality of life. He has worked with institutions of higher education, non-profits, and local governments to help them understand their impact on the physical world around them. Jerrell has also worked as an Entitlement Consultant and assisted real estate developers with securing approvals for over $150M worth of development projects.
Jason Headen, Vice President, Detroit Market, CHN Housing Partners
Jason currently leads CHN Housing Partners’ growth in Detroit – a role that involves expanding strategic partnerships and launching the Detroit Housing Network. His work has positioned him as a leader in Detroit’s development and affordable housing communities. Jason also made news in 2021 when he announced his development project in the Bagley/Fitzgerald neighborhood, where he will be co-developing Detroit’s first Black-owned brewery.

Orlando Bailey, Engagement Director, Bridge Detroit
Orlando Bailey is a lifelong Detroiter. He launched his professional career at Eastside Community Network, where he most recently served as Chief Development Officer. Orlando is co-host and producer of the podcast, Authentically Detroit. Orlando is also the host of Urban Consulate; a space where people gather to have critical conversations about cities.
