In this article, John Gallagher of Model D details Detroit Future City’s “Buying In: Opportunities for Increasing Homeownership in Detroit Through Mortgage Lending” report findings that mortgage lending in Detroit, while they have improved in recent years, remain anemic at best, with many parts of the city seeing no mortgage lending at all, and with racial disparities still stubbornly present. In partnership with DFC, this story is part of the Model D ‘Exploring Economic Equity’ series, which aims to report everyday Detroiters and their experiences as they live their lives and make choices about their neighborhoods, health, education, jobs, transportation, and other factors related to economic equity.
