Detroit’s economy is on the rise and its neighborhoods are beginning to stabilize, according to a new report released Sunday by Detroit Future City. But many Detroiters are still being left behind.
That’s long been a call to action for Detroit leaders and stakeholders; now there’s data to back up the charge.
“We are in a place in Detroit where we are finally on the map for economic gains,” said DFC Executive Director Anika Goss-Foster. “(But) we need to look at an economic strategy for Detroiters to participate in the economic growth … to be thinking about jobs for Detroit that create pathways to wealth.”
Issued five years after Detroit Future City’s release of a 50-year-plan for the city, the new report, “139 Square Miles” looks at the city through the lenses of its people, economy and physical place. But each of the areas is interconnected.
