Influential Black Slate endorses in Detroit mayoral primary contest

In this Detroit News article, Louis Aguilar discusses how Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr. has been endorsed by The Black Slate Inc., an organization that says it seeks to promote candidates it believes best represent the interests of the Black community.

The article shares how Detroit’s estimated population of 645,705 residents is 78% Black, and how data has shown a decline in Black residents in the past 25 years. Aguilar also shares: “Since 2000, the city may have lost about one-third of its Black population, about 295,000 people, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data by the Detroit Future City group. Those findings fit into a national trend of Blacks increasingly moving to the suburbs, according to the think tank.”
