Detroit Neighborhood Housing Compact April Meeting Recap

Rental Work Group

In July, the Rental Work Group heard from Afton Branche-Wilson (Poverty Solutions) who shared an Eviction Data Map/Dashboard. The eviction tracking tool, created by a team of U-M urban planning students, maps COVID-19 cases and evictions filed in court from March 2020 until April 2021. The tool also maps housing, demographic and employment data to provide deeper context. The tool is nearing completion, but will be publicly available this summer.

Homeownership Work Group

The Homeownership Work Group heard from John Gallagher, a former Detroit Free Press reporter, who is partnering with Detroit Future City on an analysis of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data. John introduce himself and the project to the group, and facilitated a high level conversation about challenges to getting a mortgage in Detroit and who might be good to interview for this project. We plan on bringing John back to the group for ongoing engagement as the project progresses.
